Laconica is a Free and Open Source Self Hosted replacement to Twitter and other microblogging tools and services. Many of Laconica eye catching features include Twitter compatibility and Facebook integration. It also features OpenID support and posts messages to other microblogging services as well. One of its useful functions include an automatic URL shortening service.
It is the same platform behind Identi.ca, the microblogging client hosted by the creators of Laconica (Pretty much a Wordpress story!).
